Pulling Back the Curtain.

Recently I mentioned that part of our teaching strategy is to reward approximations of success.

I like to share our teaching strategies.

Here’s why:  when I occasionally ‘pull back the curtain’ and show HOW we get the results we are known for…it makes it easier for students and parents to benefit from what we do!

Here’s another part of our method:    We teach, intentionally, at a MODERATE pace.

Here’s why (and it’s very simple):  That’s how people learn.

To clarify, what I mean is that learning that lasts is always done at a moderate pace.

Quickly learned means quickly forgotten.

True learning takes time.

Imagine a parent teaching a child to tie his or her shoes.

Dad says, ‘I’m going to work on this with Elizabeth all day Saturday and all day Sunday!  I’m going to give her a crash course in high intensity shoe-tying instruction!’

You know that wouldn’t work, right?  Elizabeth has to learn that skill a little bit at a time.  Moderate pace.  Dad, hopefully, rewarding approximations of success.

This is how we are wired to learn.  No getting around it…
