Reading
So – this young guy I know. Good intelligence. Not too educated. I’ve been trying to get him interested in reading. Not too much success, yet. I can tell that reading, for him, is something that school made you do. Not something you would inflict upon yourself.
We both know these other guys, a little older than him, and a lot smarter, who read a lot. I can tell what he’s thinking. He thinks, ‘They read a lot because they are smart.’
I’m trying to get him to see that he’s got it backwards. They don’t read a lot because they are smart. They are smart because they read a lot.
Many have fallen into this type of thinking error.
