Here’s a secret.  Not everything that is presented in the media as news IS news.

Many years ago, there was the six o’clock news and the eleven o’clock news. Maybe an update at noon.

What they showed you was the news.

Then, along comes cable television, with CNN and dozens of  around the clock news formats.

Suddenly, we are presented with hundreds of times more news content than we were several years back.

Is it all important?  Is it relevant to you?  Certainly the news stations themselves would have you believe it’s ALL important.  That it’s ALL necessary to YOU!

I’m not even sure we needed the hour or two of news that was presented to us in the early days.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be well informed.  That’s not my point at all.  But — YOU should choose what is and what is not necessary for you.

The media HAVE to fill up all those hours…and are forced to take minor, inconsequential events…and present them as BIG news.
